EAST Hong Kong and r é n’s Collaborative Exhibition “Art & Community” Celebrates Community, Culture and Sustainability

The hotel’s General Manager Jennifer Cheung and Area Back of House Manager/Event Production Manager Michael Lee share with us their thoughts on the partnership.

As r é n continues to extend its reach into more industries, we’ve partnered with EAST Hong Kong this year for our second-ever art exhibition, titled r é n @ EAST | Art & Community. Bringing together five artists from Hong Kong and London, the exhibition runs from now until April 30 and both celebrates and highlights the importance of community, culture and sustainability.

“We always encourage our team to think differently, and this year marks our first collaboration with a social enterprise like r é n for art month, which is a very new experience for all of us,” says Jennifer. “r é n reflects my vision for EAST as a welcoming space for everyone to connect, supporting the community through food, culture and care. We have done several events during the past art months and to me, this one with r é n is especially meaningful because we are also raising funds for their beneficiaries and people in need. I don’t think anyone would usually come across art month and think to do something meaningful with – and for – the community, at least not to the extent of fundraising and having a pop-up to sell merchandise, so I think this collaboration is fantastic.”

"It's very special for us at EAST Hong Kong too because it’s the first time we’re working with a social enterprise,” Michael adds. “We share very similar values, hoping to contribute back to our community and support underprivileged and disadvantaged youths. This event different from prior ones in that r é n drove its design and planning. Our collaboration involved upcycling used egg cartons from our kitchen and having them painted by r é n's beneficiaries as part of the exhibition decor – a fantastically creative concept that resonates with our company’s emphasis in sustainability and our “Make It Work” philosophy. The underlying significance of this event is that it can help and support those in need. It’s a very meaningful collaboration, and I hope there will be more organisations like r é n in Hong Kong. To me, r é n is a very young and creative organisation, and Hong Kong needs more of them that are truly able to help those in need in our community.”
