We had the pleasure of sitting down with Chef Uwe Opocensky from Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, delving into his commitment to r é n, his passion, favourite fashion items, wellness routine - as well as all things related to our recent campaign r é n +.

Q: Why did you join r é n? What motivated you to become a part of the r é n community
Chef Uwe: There are a few reasons but ultimately is giving back and to provide opportunities to those less privileged people. Especially for the young disadvantaged, we would like to offer them a chance, integrate them in our society and show them how beautiful our industry is. We build communities and we welcome everyone.

Q: What is your favourite meal?
Chef Uwe: A simple BBQ meal at home.

Q: What is your least favourite food?
Chef Uwe: This is hard because I like pretty much everything but if I have to pick something I would say… anything rose flavoured.

Q: If you could choose one kitchen utensil or appliance for everyone to have in their kitchen, what would it be?
Chef Uwe: A Tagine pot.

Q: What is something that recently made you smile?
Chef Uwe: We went a few weeks ago to Jimmy Carr’s show which was really funny.

Q: What is the one item of clothing you can’t live without?
Chef Uwe: My vivobarefoot trainers I wear them every day everywhere.

Q: Is there a quote or mantra you live by?
Chef Uwe: I have two – ‘Never get a second chance to make a first impression’ and ‘Life is too short so just enjoy every moment’.

Q: What is your idea of a perfect rainy day in Hong Kong?
Chef Uwe: Sitting at home on the sofa with my family and having a nice glass of red wine.

Q: How do you unwind?
Daily meditation, EFT tapping, breathing, walk with my dog and exercise.

Q: What is the last book you read?
Chef Uwe: I am ashamed to admit but I don’t really read.

Q: What is one song that makes you dance?
Chef Uwe: Everything house music related.
